Supporting poor rural families with sustainable solar energy products

solar NEVER LOOKED SO needed

Established in October 2012 Dungo Energy Solutions is a solar social enterprise based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The mission of Dungo is to improve the environment, health and education situation of the rural population in Ethiopia by applying solar energy products.

The major activities of Dungo are importing and distributing solar lamps to poor rural families and creating awareness about the benefits of solar energy to the public.

Ending ENERGY poverty

Energy poverty is affecting 80% of people in Ethiopia with no access to electricity.

According to UNEP, 70 million people are without electricity, relying on kerosene for their lighting needs.

It is estimated that 12 million families will still be living without electricity by 2025 even with tremendous investments to scale up grid connection.

We are currently running  the DUNGO solar lamp distribution project in 2 villages of Ethiopia and fast conversion of people from use of kerosene lamp to solar lamp was one of the major results.

The money and time families saved through the purchase of solar lamps and mobile charging expenses is being utilized instead to meet basic necessities such as food, clothing, and education.

Children, within the target households are able to make use of the solar lights to study.

The solar lights have also eliminated health hazards and cell phone charging expenses.

By bringing solar-generated electricity to poor households in off grid rural villages, we aim to create a safe environment for after-school studies, meal preparation and family gatherings.
